Over the last few days we have been really sad about parents and grandparents having issues with "sewing machines" that they have bought as gifts for children - as discussed on various Aussie sewing pages.
There are so many toy machines on the market. They are really not suitable for sewing - they are great for pretend and make believe but not for fabric or stitching. Sadly we have seen young kids in tears trying to work these machines and wondering what they are doing wrong! The truth is they are doing nothing wrong... the machines are fickle and should not be sold in the market as sewing machines.
So what do you do? Firstly take it back! It is not fit for purpose and under Aust Consumer Law you can get your money back.
Next purchase a machine that will do the job! After working with hundreds of machines and brands in The Studio we were excited when Gary showed us the Puggle 2 from Echidna Sewing. It is a very basic entry level machine that works and has a top loading bobbin and speed control! Two things we believe are essential for kids and beginners.
Don't buy a machine from a store that does not offer help and service. We are very proud to be associated with the team at Echidna and value their support and help
